Bio

Hi. I’m Casey. I’m a nurse in Delaware, formerly a journalist and activist in Seattle.

I grew up on the east coast near Washington D.C. After high school I traveled around the US and Canada and completed Americorps NCCC.  From 2006-2010 I earned a BA in philosophy and literature at The Evergreen State College. Along the way I hiked the Way of St. James, rowed, and cared for developmentally-disabled adults. From 2010-2011 I served in Peace Corps Philippines.

I have written for Seattle Met magazine and PubliCola, the Capitol Hill TimesCapitol Hill Seattle, Policy Mic, Real Change News and Salon. From 2013-2015 I tutored in writing and humanities at Seattle Central Community College. During 2013-14 I served as Editor in Chief of the college’s student magazine, the Central Circuit. From 2015-17 I covered city hall for Seattle Weekly. There, I won a Best New Journalist award from the regional SPJ, and one my articles was cited in a federal lawsuit.

This blog is primarily a platform for my writing. You can find me on Twitter.
